Outdoor exhibit 〜Rock Garden〜

You can relax at the spacious rock garden・・・

This rock was formed by volcanic eruptions near the equator 130 million to 120 million years ago and the movement of the Ocean plate brought it to Tei Sumiyoshi Coast (Geisei Village’s Kamibun Fishing Port).
Right side: Chert (Quartzite). Sedimentary rock formed 125 million years ago as single-celled plankton died and accumulated on the ocean bottom.
Left side:Pillow-form lava. Igneous rock formed 130 million years ago when a lava flow entered the sea water and was rapidly cooled, then it formed like a pillow

* Chert is a sedimentary (layered) rock formed 125 million years ago as single-celled plankton such as Radiolarians died and accumulated on the occean bottom.
